first steps logoFirst Steps Early Intervention Service

First Steps is part of a statewide system of services to families and infants, birth to age three with developmental delays. The program focus is to provide services early in the life of the child thus improving the child's ultimate quality of life.

Families eligible to participate in the First Steps system include those with children who:

Are experiencing developmental delays.

Have a diagnosed condition that has a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay.

Are at risk of having a substantial develomental delay if early intervention services are not provided.

An assessment and evaluation of service needs is completed upon referral and at no cost to the family. A service coordinator is selected by the family who will assist in obtaining services. An Individualized Family Service Plan containing goals, service needs and timelines of services is completed and reviewed every six months.
