Ready, Set, Learn!!!!

Individual habilitation is provided at our facility on a daily basis. We provide training in things such as academic skills, daily living skills, socialization, and money management. The object of this training is to help individuals to become more independent in their lives and their community. The training is done on a one on one basis, catered to each individuals needs.

We are dedicated to promoting a dignified, healthful quality of life for adults 50 and over, providing opportunities to develop meaningful friendships, offering lifelong learning activities while recognizing the continued and varied accomplishments of older adults. Our activities are geared toward encouraging friendships, enriching social development, promoting physical well-being, dignity and independence. Some of the skills and activities include arts and crafts, cooking, music therapy, socialization and leisure activities.

The focus of the TES Program is on the development of skills and abilities to enable the individual to be more independent. The program uses the five senses of sight, sound, smell, touch and taste.

This multi-sensory learning uses as many of the senses as possible when doing exercises and activities. Multi-sensory learning causes brain stimulation and makes the individual more receptive to learning.

In the Alternative Program services are designed to meet the needs of individuals with multi sensory needs and multiple disabilities requiring a structured environment for developmental gain. The program provides social, behavioral, recreational and therapeutic activities to meet the individual needs. Some of the skills and activities include arts and crafts, computer learning, socialization and leisure activities.

The Sheltered Employment program provides individuals the opportunity to learn work behaviors and work skills in a supportive environment while working on sub-contracts.

Program participation may be short term or long term, full time or part time.

The goal of the program is to provide training for the individual to enable the individual to work in the community. The Sheltered Work program is operated like a work setting with focus on skills as following directions, learning to follow a work routine, and returning from lunch/break on time.

This program assists the individual in acquiring, improving, and retaining skills enabling the individual to live successfully at home with their family. Services are varied and driven by the Individual Support Plan (ISP).

Basic services include: assistance with grooming and hygiene, assistance in routines of daily living, community integration through leisure skills, training in meal preparation and other daily living activities for greater independence.

Respite Care provides oversight and personal care to the individual with a disability for families to enjoy an evening out or to short term care for emergencies. This care includes care in feeding, toileting, grooming and other activities to keep the individual safe in their home.

Supported living is a program of residential support for individuals with developmental disabilities. Support can be provided for 24 hours a day or on a more limited basis, depending on needs. The program offers functional skills and training in taking care of their apartment or house along with opportunities to explore interests and hobbies. Individuals may live alone or with roommates.

The great thing about Supported Living is that it offers the individual a wide range of service options. Supported Living truly allows the individual to do what we strive for in our life - choices, independence with appropriate support without taking over the person’s life. New Horizons currently has 13 supported living sites, serving 24 consumers within their homes.

Supported Employment refers to supports that assist an individual with a disability to be employed in the community.

New Horizons has been providing community job placement for individuals with disabilities since 1990.

Placement services are individualized to specific needs and includes as assessment for matching skills to a job, on-the-job coaching and training and follow-along services.
